“Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop the picture…Do not build up obstacles in your imagination.” – Norman Vincent Peale
The quote above is very powerful. We must formulate a mental picture of ourselves succeeding and then hold onto it with a firm grip. It is then that we develop a sense of purpose. That picture of us succeeding is our purpose! It is then that our mind goes to work developing this picture and finding a way to make the mental picture happen for us. How many times has this happened to you? You go to bed with your mental picture and you wake up with a vision as clear as a bell? I suppose that’s what they mean by “sleep on it”. I know I’ve woken up with these moments of clarity and I’ve been grateful for every one of them.
But the quote above goes a step further in that it wants you to “hold this [mental picture of yourself succeeding] tenaciously.” and to “never permit it to fade”. This means it is not a one time thing. It is not a one time dream. This is your joie de vivre. Your passion for living. What you can’t do without. What, above all, do you what to succeed at? Find that passion and do not let it go! And, do not let any obstacles to you success build up in your mind or your imagination!
