I submitted an essay to the Big Brick Review’s 2015 writing completion and it earned the distinction of being designated “Entry of Note”. My essay entitled Building a Better America traces the evolution of the United States Supreme Court from the appointment of its first African-American Justice, Thurgood Marshall, through the contemporary appointments of today’s minority and women justices. The essay explains how the diverse backgrounds and unique perspectives of these justices have had a powerful role in the shaping of America’s laws, culture, and place in history.
